Marian F. Tyson, Q.C.
Education
Ms. Tyson holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Acadia University, a Bachelor of Education Degree from Dalhousie University and graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1975.
Employment History
On March 19, 2007 Ms. Tyson was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice. Prior to that she was the Deputy Minister of Community Services since June 2002.
Ms. Tyson joined the Department of Justice in 1975. Between 1975 and 1997, she was solicitor for various Government Departments and tribunals and was a member of the Civil Litigation Group, appearing at all levels of Court. She became Director of Legal Services in 1995, was appointed Executive Director of Court Services in 1997, and remained in that position until June 2002.
During her career, with the Department of Justice, Ms. Tyson was active on a number of committees and boards including Nova Scotia Bar Counsel, Chair of an Interdepartmental Committee on the Status of Women, President of the Nova Scotia Government Lawyers Association, President of the Association of Canadian Court Administrators.
