Community Corrections

General Overview:Correctional Services operates 22 community corrections offices across the province located in Amherst, Antigonish, Bedford, Bridgewater, Dartmouth Probation, Dartmouth Conditional Sentence, Digby, Glace Bay, Halifax, Kentville, Liverpool, Middleton, New Glasgow, North Sydney, Port Hawkesbury, Shelburne, Shubenacadie, Spryfield, Sydney, Truro, Windsor and Yarmouth.

Supervision of both adult and young offenders serving community-based sentences of the Court are provided by probation officers. The sentences include probation, conditional sentence, custody and supervison, conditional supervision,and Intensive Rehabilitative Custody and Supervision.  Probation Officers also supervise offenders released from custody on Conditional Releases and prepare pre-sentence investigations to assist the Courts in the sentencing process.  Community Corrections also operates a Youth Bail Supervision Program in the Halifax Regional Municiplaity.

A number of active community partnerships enhance the service provided. For example, police agencies offer direct assistance to probation officers in the supervision of conditional sentence offenders, staff partner with local schools in the delivery of anger management programs, Community Justice Agencies provide community-based programs and services for youth and the Provincial Forensic Psychiatry Service coordinates the provision of treatment programs to sex offenders.
