Here you will find information about family law in Nova Scotia.

You can use this site to:

  • get general information about how the courts work, court rules, and court procedures
  • review videos about how the courts work
  • get court forms for some legal proceedings
  • learn about court fees
  • learn about programs offered at the court
  • learn about family law topics
  • link to other family law information websites

For information about child protection matters, click here. See also the Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia website for additional information about child protection.

The online FLIC does not offer legal advice.

We recommend you get independent legal advice if you need help:

  • deciding whether or not you should bring your case to court
  • deciding whether or not you should take a particular course of action
  • filling out court forms
  • deciding what words to put in a court form
  • determining what decision a judge might make
  • deciding what to say in court

The online FLIC gives general information only. It does not explain the law. The information on this website is not guaranteed and should not be considered legal advice. For legal advice, contact a lawyer.
