Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility
he Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility was opened October 2001 and has a bed capacity of 224 male and 48 female offenders. The direct supervision podular-style facility is designed to accommodate all classifications of offenders providing safe, secure custody . The building configuration has three separate living units; the North Unit consisting of seven 16-cell day rooms for male offenders; the West Unit consisting of seven 16-cell day rooms for male offenders; and the East Unit consisting of four 12-cell day rooms for female offenders. The offender population is made up of provincially sentenced, remanded, parole suspensions, immigration violations and newly sentenced federal offenders.
The Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility is co-located with the Capital District Health Authority’s East Coast Forensic Hospital. Each Facility is independently operated and offenders and forensic clients are separate at all times. Although separate operations, the Capital District Health Authority provides all the primary Health Services via clinics on the Corrections side as needed, and Corrections staff provide security for Forensics.
