This summary is published annually to report the statistical information related to the purchase of primary forest products, forest harvesting, the production of secondary forest products in Nova Scotia and the silviculture conducted under Wood Acquisition Plans. This information is collected from companies and individuals involved in the forest sector who acquire primary forest products
Summary
The total provincial harvest for 2010 reported was 4,481,540 cubic meters of solid wood. Of this amount, 86% or 3,854,339 cubic meters were softwood species. The total volume of wood acquired for export reported was 205,747 cubic meters, or 5% of the total harvest. The total volume of wood imported for use in Nova Scotia reported was 340,897 cubic meters, or 7% of the total wood consumed in Nova Scotia.
The provincial harvest for 2010 shows a increase of 9% compared to the 2009 harvest of 4,127,091 cubic meters.
Statistical returns were received from 216 Registered Buyers. Data was estimated for 3 non-compliant buyers, for a total of 219 Registered Buyers. Of the 219 buyers, 148 were reported to be active in the 2010 calendar year.
