This is to advise that on January 24, 2013, The Municipality of the District of Guysborough in partnership with Nova Scotia Power Inc. (NSPI) (the Proponent) will register the Sable Wind Addendum for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.
The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to construct and operate a 13.8 (nameplate) wind energy generating facility, called the Sable Wind Project (the Project). The Project will be constructed on privately owned lands in Guysborough County, which are surrounded by the communities of Canso, Hazel Hill and Little Dover.
On August 23, 2012, the Minister of Environment determined that the Registration Information was insufficient to make a decision on the Project and that additional information was required to assess impacts on habitat by turbines and infrastructure of the proposed Project. Specifically, the additional information should address how coastal proximity and location of proposed turbines will affect wetlands and flight corridors for migratory birds and bats.
On March 15, 2013 the Minister of Environment released a decision (PDF: 134k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions (PDF: 78k) .
