On Aug 5, 2008, RMSenergy Ltd. and Stantec Consultants Ltd. registered a wind energy project for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.
The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to construct and operate a 51 MW wind energy facility consisting of 34, 1.5 MW wind turbine generators. This facility is proposed to be located north of the Trans Canada Highway (#104), Mount Thom, Pictou County, Nova Scotia. The Proponent anticipates an operational wind farm by the end of 2009, pending permits and approvals.
On Sept 02, 2008 the Minister of Environment released a decision (PDF: 348k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions (PDF: 31k).
The proponent is required to obtain all other necessary approvals, permits or authorizations before commencing work on the undertaking.
Public comments were accepted between August 5, 2008 and August 19, 2008. All comments received are available to the public at the Nova Scotia Environment Library, 5th floor, Halifax Office, 5151 Terminal Road.
