The position of
Minister responsible for Military Relations was established by an Order in
Council on October 31st, 2006, to provide the Government of Nova Scotia with a
vehicle to communicate and work directly with the headquarters, offices,
units and agencies of the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces
in Nova Scotia.
Departmental responsibility and accountability for the province's defence and
military-related activities was assigned to the Department of Intergovernmental
Affairs. The position of Advisor-Military Affairs was established on April
1st, 2007, to provide advice, guidance, assistance, and support to the
province's departments, agencies, boards, commissions and representatives.
Nova Scotia is Canada's only province to establish the position of Minister
responsible for Military Relations. This reflects on the long and proud history
of the relationship between the military and its host province of Nova Scotia.
