Truck Regulatory Review

The Government of Nova Scotia has embarked on the Better Regulation Initiative. All departments and agencies are reviewing their respective legislation and regulations, policies and procedures with the objective of reducing the regulatory burden by 20% by 2010.

Departments are trying to reduce the burden placed on Nova Scotians’ by making forms easier to access, reducing the length of forms, re-evaluating renewal periods, and by looking at ways to make it easier to comply with the rules.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal and Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations have hired the Orca Transportation Safety Group to assist in conducting a review of the Nova Scotia trucking regulations, policies and procedures to identify additional efficiencies that can be achieved in current practices and reduce the regulatory burden.

We want to hear about your concerns and ideas about how to reduce the regulatory burden facing the Nova Scotia trucking industry. To assist in these tasks and to focus discussion on the most important issues Orca has prepared a consultation paper. This document outlines the main regulatory provisions in Nova Scotia legislation and poses some key questions about the regulatory burden. There is also survey document to gather your views and ideas.
