Temporary Workplace Traffic Control Manual

The Temporary Workplace Traffic Control Manual (Manual) is the means by which the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal 'publishes' the minimum standards for traffic control at temporary workplaces on or near the roads for which he / she has legal authority.

The Manual will be revised periodically. When changes occur, the Minister will update the Web copy noted below. As soon as 'published' on the Web, the newer edition will become the current legal edition. It becomes effective on the (Web) publication date and supercedes any and all previously published versions, whether published in hard copy or electronically.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal may not reach every Manual user while broadcasting notifications of changes. It is therefore the sole responsibility of Manual users to check periodically to make sure they have the latest and legal edition. To make sure you are using the current legal version, compare the publication reference number on front inside cover page of the Manual (it takes the form: Reference # 2010.05.15).

Changes Since the Last Published Version of the Manual

A foreword at the front of the Manual summarize changes since it was last published. Established Manual users are encouraged to make themselves familiar with these changes before undertaking new work.

Two files have been prepared to assist Manual users update their 2009.05.19 Manuals to the new 2010.05.15 standards:

    The first update file contains only the pages directly affected by change. This file will be useful for those who have printed their 2009.05.19 Manual as a single sided document and wish to update it: Update Pages Single-Sided

    The second update file contains the pages directly affected by change and includes pages unaffected by change, but appearing on the reverse side of changed pages. This file will be useful for those who have printed their 2009.05.19 Manual as a double sided document and wish to update it to the new 2010.05.15 standards: Update Pages Double-Sided
    Important Note: The file for double sided printing has been formatted to work only with Manual documents, as originally published by the Department. If end users have altered page number formatting during printing, they will have to make sure that the replacement page sequence captures all new information correctly. The pdf file has been left unprotected, to facilitate manipulation by end users.

Published Version of the Manual on Disk

The Department does not distribute printed copies of the Manual. To meet the needs of those who are unable to download the legal version, copies of the Manual may be purchased on disk by contacting Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations using the following information:

The Manual is copyrighted. The document may not be altered, except as authorized by the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. It may not be copied, or distributed, in whole or in part, for profit or gain, without express written permission from the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.

Without additional permission, individuals may copy the Manual for their own use. Agencies and companies may copy and distribute the Manual within their agency or company for training, and to support compliance with standards.
