Hunting Licence: Bear

| Who Needs This Licence? |
Anyone who wants to hunt bear in Nova Scotia.
Note: You have to be 18 years of age or older. (However,
persons 16 or 17 can get a licence through a parent or guardian who
has an appropriate Hunting Certificate.) Also, he/she must accompany
you when you apply for this licence.

| Application Process: |
No application form is needed. A licence can
be purchased from any of the offices
of the Department of Natural Resources .
You have to be 18 years of age or older. (However, persons 16 or 17 can
get a licence through a parent or guardian who has an appropriate Hunting
Certificate.) Also, he/she must accompany you when you apply for
this licence.
You have to have a Base
Licence for Hunting.
You have to have a valid Wildlife
Resource Card and be certified for the weapon with which you will
be hunting
If you have all those requirements, then you can buy a
Bear Hunting Stamp . You stick that hunting stamp on the
inside of the cover of your Base Licence, and that turns it into a Bear
Hunting Licence. Base Licence + Bear Hunting
Stamp = Bear Hunting Licence .

This licence is valid for the length of the open bear season
in a given year. Bear hunting is not
allowed on Sundays. Once the licence expires, it cannot be
reused.

| Related Requirements:
|
- You have to have a valid Wildlife
Resource Card and be certified for the weapon with which you
will be hunting. (If you are a non-resident, you have to have whatever
is the equivalent in your own province or state.)
- During the period when the Bear Hunting Season overlaps with the
General Open Season for Hunting Deer there is no requirement to hunt
bear at registered bait sites.
- If you are carrying a firearm in any wildlife habitat in Nova Scotia,
you may also be asked to produce one of the following:
- A valid Firearms
Acquisition Certificate ; or
- Canadian Firearm
Possession & Acquisition Licence ; or
- Canadian Adult
(Firearm) Possession Only Licence ; or
- Canadian Minor's
(Firearm) Possession Only Licence (if you are under 18).

| Additional Information:
|
- If you are a non-resident hunter, you can only hunt
for bear if you are accompanied by a licensed guide, or by a resident
of Nova Scotia who is over 19 and who has received a Guide
Licence.
- Anyone exporting bears or bear parts out of Canada
has to have a CITES Export Permit.
- Hunting is not allowed
in Nova Scotia on Sundays.
