Retired Volunteer Ground Search and Rescue Licence Plate

The Registry of Motor Vehicles has developed a new Retired Volunteer Ground Search and Rescue Licence Plate that recognizes retired ground search and rescue volunteers with at least 15 years of service. The plate features the same compass logo as the Volunteer Ground Search and Rescue Licence Plate and the words “Retired Volunteer Ground Search and Rescue” at the bottom.

Starting 17 February 2022, the Retired Volunteer Ground Search and Rescue Licence Plate is available from any Access Nova Scotia or Registry of Motor Vehicles Office.

The Retired Volunteer Ground Search and Rescue Licence Plate is issued in sequential order to passenger vehicles (like cars and station wagons) and light commercial vehicles up to 5,000 kg (like trucks, sport utility vehicles and vans).

Registration Fees

There’s no registration fee for a Retired Volunteer Ground Search and Rescue Licence Plate if you provide a completed Application for Retired Volunteer Firefighter Plates or Retired Ground Search and Rescue Plates (PDF) when you apply. The application form needs to be certified by the team lead director.

Future renewals: no cost

The cost of replacing a lost or stolen Retired Volunteer Ground Search and Rescue Licence Plate is $5.80.

Insurance information is required each time a vehicle registration (plate) is issued or renewed. A Statement of Insurance form must be completed for in-person and mail requests. For online renewal requests, you will be asked to provide this information electronically.
