Accessing the Garrison Grounds on June 28

Everyone is welcome see Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh during their official welcome to Canada at the Garrison Grounds at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 28.

Crowds are expected to be large so spectators might want to arrive early for the best vantage points. Large viewing screens will offer a good view of the proceedings.

Four American Sign Language interpreters will provide signing in both official languages for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing in a designated area.

People should access the Garrison Grounds via Ahern, Brunswick and Cogswell streets, walking across Citadel Hill. No one will be allowed to cross Sackville Street between Brunswick and South Park Streets to access the Garrison Grounds.

Parking will be very limited. Persons with disabilities and persons who are deaf or hard of hearing can be dropped off at the intersection of Bell and Summer streets.

Anyone driving near the Citadel, should be mindful of road closures. As of 10 a.m.:

  • Sackville Street is closed to vehicle traffic from Brunswick Street to Bell Road and the sidewalk is closed from the south side of Brunswick Street to South Park Street. Sackville Street re-opens to traffic at 4:30 p.m.

  • Bell Road is closed to vehicle traffic from South Park Street to Summer Street, sidewalk closed on Garrison Grounds side from South Park Street to Ahern Avenue. Bell Road re-opens to traffic at 5:00 p.m.

Motorists and pedestrians can also expect traffic restrictions on the MacKay and MacDonald bridges, and some traffic delays for motorcades on Monday, June 28.
