Creation of the Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency
The creation of the Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency (NSPHA) will bring structure, efficiency, and consistency to Nova Scotians in need of housing.
Housing is more than a roof over our heads. It is a safe haven. It means family, community, and it’s the place we call home.
Both the Nova Scotia Affordable Housing Commission report, Charting a new course for affordable housing in Nova Scotia and the Auditor General’s Report, Oversight and Management of Government Owned Public Housing (PDF) identified a need for Nova Scotia to focus on standardizing and streamlining public housing operations across the province.
The creation of the Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency (NSPHA) will bring structure, efficiency, and consistency to Nova Scotia Public Housing. The NSPHA will be dedicated to, and specifically responsible for, public housing. This will result in better client service and greater access for those in need of housing in the province.
This change is about doing things differently. The establishment of the NSPHA is the first of many steps to provide better oversight, accountability, and increased access to ensure lasting and consistent client service for all Nova Scotians in need of housing. Coming together under one roof ensures policies and processes are uniformly applied in the same way for any Nova Scotian already living in, or waiting for, access to our housing.
