How to Set a Goal

Refer to your Giving History

  1. Consider if level the of Participation, and Average Gift can be increased
  2. Consider Number of Employees if it has increased, decreased, or stayed the same

Follow the example below to set your Goal

Sample Organization 2010 Campaign 2011 Campaign Goal
Participation: 43% 46% (you set this)
Number of Employees: 80 79 (check with your HR staff)
Average Gift: $70 $77 (you set this)
Special Events: $100 $120 (you set this)
Total $ Raised: $2,508 $2,918 (as calculated below)

Estimates for the 2011 Campaign Goal

Participation   X   Number of Employees   X   Average Gift   +   Special Event   =   Total
(0.46) x 79 x 77 + 120 = 2,918

A Few Notes

  • The Number of employees in your organization should reflect those covered in the campaign you are running.
  • In Number of Employees, include casuals.
  • The goal should be challenging, yet realistic.
  • Try to make your goal at least what was raised in the 2010 campaign, unless there has been a significant change in your organization (eg: substantially fewer employees).
  • You may want to discuss the goal with your Deputy Minister or organization head, to ensure that they are comfortable with it and whether they are aware of any significant issues, which may affect your goal.
