Government House Renovation

Government House has been continuously occupied since it opened in 1804. A major exterior renovation was conducted in the latter part of the last decade but none of the building's systems were replaced or upgraded.

In December 2006, renovations on the historic site began. The building required significant repairs and upgrading to meet modern needs and accessibility requirements. Old infrastructure such as wiring, plumbing are also being replaced and a ventilation system is being added.

The project is using department staff for the most part because of their expertise and familiarity with this historic building. Historical architects and other experts are also being consulted when required.

The project is on time and on budget and scheduled to be complete in November 2009.
