The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal’ (Department) and stakeholders have been working on significant revisions to the Temporary Workplace Traffic Control Manual (Manual). The revised Manual will come into effect on April 01, 2007.
Based on the contents of the revised Manual, the Department has developed a new two-day Temporary Workplace Signer training Program to replace the existing one, and for those with a current qualification, a one-day Temporary Workplace Signer Upgrade Program. Those who successfully complete the Upgrade Program will have their qualification extended by one year. To be eligible to take the one-day Upgrade Program, students must have a current Temporary Workplace Signers qualification on the upgrade date.
People who want to work in the capacity of a Temporary Workplace Signer in Nova Scotia must, by 2007.04.01, either take the one-day Upgrade Program (if they are eligible), or the revised two-day Temporary Workplace Signers Program. Temporary Workplace Signers who gained a qualification under the old Manual and Temporary Workplace Signers Program, and who do not participate in either of the two Programs described above, will no longer be eligible to act in the capacity of Temporary Workplace Signer after 2007.04.01.
Clarification:
As of the publication date of the Manual (April 01, 2007), those who have not participated in the Temporary Workplace Signer Upgrade Program, or the new two-day Temporary Workplace Signer Program will no longer be accredited, therefore may not perform the function of Temporary Workplace Signer. After that date, Trainers may continue to offer the one-day Temporary Workplace Signer Upgrade Program to students eligible to participate. It is expected that work and training scheduling will result in demand after the Manual publication date. Those Temporary Workplace Signers who take the Upgrade Program after the new Manual is published, will have their status as Temporary Workplace Signers restored. It is advisable for students to get their upgrade training early, as it will likely happen that course availability will diminish after the publication date of the Manual.
For Traffic Control Persons, an upgrade program is not planned. Traffic Control Persons with an existing qualification will requalify using the revised lesson plan when their existing qualification expires.
Trainers are now delivering the one-day Temporary Workplace Signer Upgrade Program, the new two-day Temporary Workplace Signer Program, as well as the new Traffic Control Person Program.
At the bottom of this page there is a link to a list of Trainers, and a link to the Traffic Control Person Training Manual (download to computer). The Training Manual is the same one used to instruct Traffic Control Persons.
