Treasury Board

On July 9, 2009, a new government committee was established to provide policy direction to government. Treasury and Policy Board was separated into a Policy and Priorities Committee and a stand-alone Treasury Board.

The Treasury Board office, headed by a Deputy Minister, provides policy and financial analysis to support Treasury Board and to fulfill the statutory responsibilities of a central government agency.

Its mandate is to ensure that plans and policies for the operation of government of the Province are implemented in a co-ordinated and fiscally responsible manner.

To support the Treasury Board committee’s responsibility for financial management of government expenditures, the Treasury Board office directs the planning and review of the budget process and preparation of budget documents. This is accomplished by working in close co-operation with the Department of Finance.

It also has broad responsibilities for corporate management, including development and monitoring of administrative standards and processes. Treasury Board assists the Deputy Minister to the Premier in his capacity as Senior Deputy Minister responsible for leading senior officials and deputy ministers and advising on the organizational structure and functions of government.
