Fixed Roof and Campground Occupancy Reports
The department has been able to report accommodation sector activity since the 1960's thanks to the cooperation of individual operators throughout the province. The monthly occupancy reports continue to provide valuable information on performance and trends within the sector, important to both industry and government. Accommodation statistics are the best source of geographic data on tourism activity in the province.
Government has announced its intention to repeal the Tourist Accommodation Act in the spring of 2008. Until then, the Act continues to be in effect. Therefore, all licensed operators are still expected to submit their monthly statistics to the department.
Once the Act is repealed, accommodation operators must continue to submit their monthly statistics report to the department if they wish to participate in provincial marketing activities (Doers and Dreamers, novascotia.com and more). Operator’s not submitting monthly occupancy reports risk removal from novascotia.com and listing in future Doers and Dreamers guides.
Properties listed in the 2008 Doers and Dreamers Guide, which is currently in production, will be required to send in their monthly reports throughout the coming year, especially if they wish to remain on novascotia.com and participate in other provincial marketing opportunities.
