The Celtic Heart of North America- Cape Breton’s Celtic Experience Showcase

A special group of Cape Breton Island organizations have come together to celebrate and share the only living Celtic culture in North America. The group kicked off the tourism season with an official web launch at the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre in Judique, Cape Breton. The launch showcased a sampling of the experiences a visitor can find on the island including live traditional music, step dancing, square dancing and Gaelic language and song. The one-hour presentation was videotaped and will be available to be viewed on the Celtic Heart YouTube Channel in the coming weeks.

The Celtic Heart of North America Co-operative was created to promote the island to potential visitors with a specific interest in Celtic culture or those seeking unique cultural experiences. “Our goal is to raise the awareness of all that Cape Breton has to offer culturally and musically to those closer to home within our own region and other parts of Canada,” says Dan Coffin, Chair of the Co-operative.

The site, www.celticheart.ca, features a calendar of events outlining events and activities of each partner in the co-operative to make planning a vacation to Cape Breton Island simple and convenient. There is also a brochure with a map of the island showing the location of the celtic experiences the group has to offer. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of Celtic experiences from guided whiskey tours of Glenora Distillery, to a visit back-in-time with Nova Scotia’s Gaels at the Highland Village, to the must attend Celtic Colors International Festival for nine days in October featuring artists from all over the Celtic world.
