Research Division
Three main research documents:

  1. Tourism Insights Overview of the current level of tourism activity in the province. It is a collection of key travel indicators for Nova Scotia including occupancy rates. All indicators included in the report are presented on a month-by-month basis and are compared to the same time period of the previous year.
  2. Visitor Exit Survey Key trip and visitor profile information.
  3. Visitor Traffic Flow Report compiled from data collected at all provincial entry and exit points. The Department’s website (www.gov.ns.ca/tch) provides information about the Department including overviews of plans, funding programs, “How To” Development Guides, Product Market Match research, news releases and projects.

Canadian Travel Activities and Motivation Study (TAMS)
Follow research link at www.tourismpartners.com Comprehensive assessment of travel behavior and motivators database to develop marketing strategies and travel products to attract international visitors.

Statistics Canada
Population data and statistics for the Travel Survey of Residents of Canada (major source of data used to measure the size and status of Canada's tourism industry — volume, characteristics and economic impact of domestic travel) and the International Travel Survey (full range of statistics on the volume of international travellers and detailed characteristics of their trips such as expenditures, activities, places visited and length of stay).

Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia (TIANS)
TIANS Tourism Research Centre provides linkages to other research resources including sustainable tourism and international resources. The TIANS Tourism Human Research Council provides studies and reports.

Travel and Tourism Research Association – Canada Chapter
The Travel & Tourism Research Association (TTRA) – Canada Chapter is dedicated to organizations and individuals interested in advancing the quality and effectiveness of tourism research. TTRA Canada fosters the value and use of research in the marketing, planning and development of tourism.
