Site Operations oversees the operation of all but two of the 27 provincially owned museums in the Nova Scotia Museum system. In locations across Nova Scotia, the 25 sites attached to Site Operations include historic houses and villages, museums related to our industrial heritage, and sites that interpret Nova Scotia’s relationship to fishing and the sea, and our geological history. Site Operations manages 9 museums directly. It maintains relationships between the Heritage Division and the community organizations and groups that operate another 16 Nova Scotia Museum sites. The unit is responsible for the overall interpretation of Nova Scotia's history as presented in all 25 of these museums and provides ongoing advice and support to these valuable heritage resources and notable heritage tourism attractions. Site Operations staff are also involved in broader Heritage Division projects related to museum development and interpretation, and discovering ways to enhance the interpretation of the Province’s founding cultures.
