French-language Services Plan 2011–2012

Message from Deputy Minister

It is a pleasure to present the French-language services plan for the new Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage for 2011–12.

In January 2011, the provincial government realigned a number of departments to help deliver on the priorities important to Nova Scotians, including better health care for families, creating good jobs, growing the economy and ensuring government lives within its means. As a result, our new department has been given an exciting mandate to support vibrant communities across Nova Scotia and work with our stakeholders to celebrate and promote the province’s diverse culture and heritage.

A major part of achieving that mandate is ensuring access to French-language services for Acadian and francophone Nova Scotians. By supporting the outstanding work of Acadian Affairs through our department, we are taking a step in that direction and I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to promote service excellence.

Our new department creates many opportunities for developing the cultural potential of Nova Scotia in its broadest sense. From programs to support and recognize artistic and cultural achievement, the preservation of our many important heritage resources and development of community library resources for French-speaking Nova Scotians, the potential to positively
impact Acadian and francophone language and culture is enormous.

Bringing together this broad group of programs and services under one roof has involved tremendous commitment and innovation by staff. I appreciate their dedication to providing the best possible service to all Nova Scotians.

Through implementing our 2011–12 plan, we continue to support preserving and enriching Nova Scotia’s Acadian and francophone communities.
