Registry of Motor Vehicles - What's New

New Driver's Licence & Identification Cards

The province has introduced new driver’s licences and ID cards with enhanced security features to better protect the personal identity of Nova Scotians.

Harmonized Sales Tax Rate

Effective July 1, 2010 the Provincial Portion of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) was increased from 8% to 10%. Therefore, effective July 1, 2010 the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) and the Nova Scotia Sales Tax (NSST) will be increased from 13% to 15%.

Vehicles purchased on or after July 1, 2010 will be taxable at the rate of 15%. For a Schedule of Fees effective July 1, 2010, click here. Some Goods & Services fees are subject to HST.
