| You must file a completed Driver's Medical Examination Report
when you first apply for a licence class 1,2,3,4, at licence renewal, and
annually after age 64. Medical information may be requested at the Registry's
discretion when applicable. No medical is required for class 5,6,7,8 unless
there is specific medical condition and one is requested.

and Applications area of this website.
For class 1, 2, 3, and 4 licences, certain health standards must
be met.
Some conditions may prohibit the issuance of a Class 1, 2, 3,
or 4 licence. Some examples are:
 epilepsy
certain diseases of the brain
Parkinson's disease
certain heart conditions
multiple sclerosis
certain diabetic conditions
In addition, permission to drive Class 1, 2, 3, or 4 vehicles may
not be given to amputees and people with mobility
impairments (such as lack of range of motion of the head),
paralysis of any limb, or disabling rheumatism or arthritis.
Applicants for Class 1, 2, or 4 licences must meet the following
vision standards:
vision in both eyes
acuity not less than 20/50 (6/15) in poorer eye and 20/30 (6/9) in the better eye, with or without correction
no diplopia (double vision)
field of vision not less than 120 degrees in each eye
Applicants for Class 3 licences must meet the same standards
as Classes 1, 2, and 4 (above) except as follows:
visual acuity not less than 20/40 (6/12) in at least one eye
field of vision not less than 120 degrees with both eyes open and examined together
You must be able to hear a forced whisper at 1.5 to 2 metres
or to engage in a normal conversation at 8 to 10 metres.
When assessing medical reports the department is assisted by
a committee of medical specialists. Decisions are based on
guidelines developed by the Canadian Medical Association and
the National Safety Codes' medical standards for drivers
developed by medical advisors from across Canada.
