Registry of Joint Stock Companies - Society Registration
You may choose to incorporate your society, but it's not mandatory. Please read the Societies Act before creating a Society.

STEP 1: NAME RESERVATION

After you choose a society name, you must reserve it. Your name should be descriptive as well as distinctive. We will help you ensure your name is distinctive by looking for similar names that are already registered within the same geographic area (free for Societies).

Submit your request including:

  • name
  • phone
  • mailing address
  • proposed Society Name
  • objectives of the Society

You may apply online at The Nova Scotia Business Registry, use our name reservation form, or contact us directly.

After two business days, contact us to find out whether or not your name has been reserved. Call (902) 424-7770 or check Name Reservation Results.

We reserve names for 90 days only.

STEP 2: REGISTRATION

After your name is reserved:

  1. Complete all required Society Registration Forms.
  2. Have the signatures witnessed by someone who is not one of the original subscribers.
  3. Return the forms with the $35 fee. Use Cash, debit, Visa, Mastercard, American Express (include expiry date and cardholder name with credit cards) or cheque payable to "Registry of Joint Stock Companies". Do not send cash in the mail. You will then receive your Certificate of Registration.

When you register a society in Nova Scotia, you must appoint a Recognized Agent.

Annual society incorporation fees: $25
