Share your Knowledge

Your knowledge of the history and spelling of local names is important and we encourage you to share your information with us. If you:

  • have any questions about the official spelling or location of a community or feature name on a road sign or map;
  • notice that an unofficial name is being used on road signs or maps;
  • have questions about proper geographical name usage while preparing official documents such as a licence, permit, map, road sign, etc.

Who is responsible for Nova Scotia's geographical names?

Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, through its Information Management Services Division, operates the Province's
Geographic Names Program. The Provincial member of the Geographic Names Board of Canada, administers geographical naming activities within the province.
