Anyone in Nova Scotia who wants to utilize public highway right-of-way
to gain access to a water lot immediately adjacent to highway right-of-way.

| Application Forms & Process: |
|
An applicant can send a letter of request along with an attached
plan that clearly outlines the area for which water (riparian) rights are
required, to the nearest district
or area office of the N.S. Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.
If all requirements are met and the Area Manager approves the request, then
a form letter will be mailed to the applicant.

|
- If an applicant is planning any activity / work on the roadway or within the highway right-of-way, including installing a driveway or erecting a structure within 100 metres of any highway, a "Work Within Highway Right-of Way Permit" is required from the N.S. Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal prior to starting the work. Additional permits may be required from the Municipality.
- Permits may be required from: (a) Environment
Canada; (b) Fisheries
and Oceans Canada; and (c) Nova Scotia Environment.
