Pump Installer Certificate of Qualification

Who Needs This Certification of Qualification?
  Anyone who wants to hold themselves out as a water well pump installer on any property which that person does not own or lease.

Application Forms & Process:
  You can get an application form for this Certificate by downloading a form or by contacting the Central Regional Office as listed above. After completing the form, submit it and the appropriate fee to the above address. Appliicants for this certification must meet certain requirements, please see Additional Information:, below.

The application is reviewed and the applicant will then be invited to attend a training seminar held at least once annually. At the end of the training seminar, an exam will be given. (Oral examinations are available to those who require them.) If all requirements are met and the examination is passed, the applicant will receive their certification by mail within 30 days.

Applications which have had no follow up in 12 months will expire.
Waiting Period:
  60 days or less, provided that all requirements for an application have been met.
Expiry & Renewal:
  This certificate is valid until December 31 of the year in which it is issued. It must be renewed annually. A renewal notice will be sent out prior to expiration to all current certificate holders. A renewal form can be downloaded by clicking here.
Price: (No tax is charged)
 

New Application:
$ 50.00 for Class II Pump Installers
$100.00 for Class I Pump Installers

Annual Renewal:
$ 50.00 for Class II Pump Installers
$100.00 for Class I Pump Installers

Please make cheque or money order payable to the Minister of Finance.

Deposit Bond:  Security may be required based on the past performance or financial situation. However, bonding on a financial basis would be very rare.

Related Requirements:
  Registration with the Nova Scotia Registry of Joint Stocks Companies, if applicable.
Additional Information:
  The applicant must:
  1. Be 18 years of age or older;
  2. Class II Certificate - have no less than 3000 hours of work experience, supervised by a certified pump installer, installing water pumps of 1 ½ HP or under single-phase motor driven;
    or
    Class I Certificate - have no less than 1000 hours of work experience, supervised by a certified Class I pump installer, installing industrial or commercial water pumps of over 1 ½ HP single- or multi-phase driven while a holder of a Class II pump installer certificate;
  3. Successfully complete a written or verbal test of competence in pump installation and demonstrate a working knowledge of the Well Construction Regulations;
  4. Successfully complete a field test to demonstrate practical knowledge of well pump installation as considered necessary by the board; and
  5. Submit the appropriate fee as indicated above.
Certificate Classes:
  • Class I Pump Installers are licensed to work on all water well pumps.

  • Class II Pump Installers are licensed to work on only single-phased motor driven pumps up to 1 ½ HP for water wells.
