Well Drilling Certification of Qualification

Who Needs This Certification of Qualification?
  Anyone who wants to hold themselves out as a well driller on any property which that person does not own or lease.

Application Forms & Process:
  You can get an application form for this Certificate by downloading a form or by contacting the Central Regional Office as listed above.  After completing the form, submit it and the appropriate fee to the above address. Appliicants for this certification must meet certain requirements, please see Additional Information:, below.

The application is reviewed and the applicant is invited to attend a meeting to be interviewed and tested by the Nova Scotia Well Construction Advisory Board. If all requirements are met and the examination is passed, the applicant will then be required to do a field test. Applicants who successfully pass their field test with receive their certification by mail within 30 days.

Applications which have had no follow up in 12 months will expire.
Waiting Period:
  60 days or less, provided that all requirements for an application have been met.
Expiry & Renewal:
  This certificate is valid until December 31 of the year in which it is issued. It must be renewed annually. A renewal notice will be sent out prior to expiration to all current certificate holders.

Price: (No tax is charged)
 

New Application:
$300.00 for primary driller in a company & one machine
$100.00 for each additional driller
$ 25.00 for each additional machine

Annual Renewal:
$300.00 for primary driller in a company & one machine
$100.00 for each additional driller
$ 25.00 for each additional machine

Please make cheque or money order payable to the Minister of Finance.

Deposit Bond:  Security may be required based on the past performance or financial situation. However, bonding on a financial basis would be very rare.

Related Requirements:
  Registration with the Registry of Joint Stocks Companies , if applicable.
Additional Information:
  The applicant must:
  1. Be 18 years of age or older;
  2. Have no less than 4000 hours of work experience, supervised by a certified well driller, in operating a well drilling machine, at least 1500 hours of which has been performed in the province of Nova Scotia;
  3. Be interviewed by the On-Site Services Advisory Board;
  4. Successfully complete a written or verbal test of competence in well drilling and demonstrate a working knowledge of the Well Construction Regulations;
  5. Successfully complete a field test to demonstrate practical knowledge of well construction; and
  6. Submit the appropriate fee as indicated above.
