Fuel Oil Retailer Approval

| Who Needs This Approval? |
| | Anyone retailing fuel oil in Nova Scotia. That is, anyone who sells
it to a retailer or keeps it for sale to retailers. Fuel Oil is a petroleum
product used for generating heat or electrical power and excludes kerosene.
Note: kerosene is not considered Fuel Oil, and no permit
is required.

| Application Forms & Process:

| | You can get an application form for this Approval by downloading
a copy by clicking here or from any Regional
or District Office of Nova Scotia Environment. After
completing the form, submit it, all required documentation and the appropriate
fee to the above address or applications can be accepted at any Departmental
office.
The application is reviewed to ensure that all required information and
fees are provided. Applications missing information and/or fees will not
be processed and the applicant will be contacted to provide what is required.
New Approvals:
Mobile Delivery – The application is reviewed to ensure that all regulations and guidelines have been followed. If an applicant fails to meet these criteria, the applicant will be alerted as to which specific requirements have not been met. Once an applicant has met all criteria an approval will be issued.
Fixed Pumps - After being reviewed, applications will be forwarded to a local Nova Scotia Environment inspector. The inspector will ensure that all requirements of the governing regulations have been met and conduct an inspection. Outlets that do not pass inspection will be informed what measures are required and will be given a time frame in which to do this. Reinspection will be made before an approval recommendation is given. Also, if this is not an addition to an existing Motive Fuel Retailer site, an approval letter form the Fire Marshall’s Office must be provided before a Fuel Oil Retailer’s Approval will be issue.
Transfers of Approvals: Approvals are issued in the name of the
operating company/person of an outlet. If the operating company/person
changes and new approval must be applied for showing the transfer of name.
If all required documentation and fees are submitted the approval will
be issued.
Applications which have had no follow up in 12 months will expire.

| Waiting Period: |
| | 60 days or less, provided that all requirements for an application have
been met.
Once all requirements have been successfully met, approvals will be sent
by mail within 30 days.

| Expiry & Renewal: |
| | This Approval is valid until the following March 31st.
It must be renewed annually. A renewal notice will be sent out prior to
expiration.
Annual volumes sold must be reported with renewal form in order for renewal
to be processed.

Note: Applicants who already have a Fuel Oil Wholesaler Approval will
have the fee for a new or renewed Fuel Oil Retailer Approval waived.
