Placement of a Temporary Building Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
Anyone who wants to place any temporary building greater than 20 square metres (215.2 square feet) within the Municipality of the District of Chester.

Application Process:
An application must be filled out and submitted accompanied by any required information on temporary setting, building size, etc., and plot plan showing distances to any property line, buildings, etc. Permit fees should accompany all applications.
Waiting Period:
Usually within 1 week after application and plans, as well as any additional required permits, are received.
Price & Payment:
The fee is determined by the estimated value of the building.
Expiry & Renewal:
This permit is valid for 12 months from the date it is issued. It is renewable.
Related Requirements:
The following approvals may be required before a Temporary Building Permit can be validated and, when required, must be approved before the Temporary Building Permit is issued:
  1. On Site Sewage Permit (Nova Scotia Environment) OR
  2. Municipal Sewer Hook-Up (Municipality of the District of Chester)
  3. NS Department of Transportation (if near a public road)
  4. Development Permit
Additional Information:
This permit is not required for:

Accessory buildings not greater than 20 square metres (215.2 square feet) in building area.
