Who Needs This Approval?
Anyone who wants to construct, locate, alter or change the use of any building within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality

Note: Depending upon what you want to do, you may need to be a joint Building / Development Permit.

Application Forms & Process:
You have to apply for this permit in person. 

When you apply, you have to explain to staff what it is you want to do (construct something, or relocate something, or an alteration or change the use of a property....) 

Depending upon the type of development you have in mind, you may have to provide property information (for example, a floor plan or a plot plan or a site plan). 

In some situations, other documents may also be required. 

After all required documents have been submitted, and the application has been reviewed by staff, you will be notified by mail whether or not the permit has been granted.

Waiting Period:
Normally, a decision on this approval is made within 2 weeks.
Expiry:
There is no expiry date for a Development Permit. There is, however, an expiry date on a Building Permit. Please refer to the Building Permit page of the CBRM Directory for information on the expiry date for a Building Permit.
