Welding, High Pressure: Certification

 
Who Needs This Certification?

Any company that wants a high pressure welder certified to carry out welding fabrication or repairs to boilers and pressure vessels, high pressure piping or brazing on refrigeration systems.

Welder Transfer:

For information on transferring a welder qualification card from one company to another within the Province of Nova Scotia, or on transferring a welder qualification card from another Canadian province or territory to the Province of Nova Scotia, please see Application Forms & Process below.

Application Forms & Process:

A request is submitted to the Department for a test date and site.

If all requirements are met and the test is passed, the certification will be sent to the applicant by mail.

Welder Transfer
A transfer request form must be submitted by the company to the Department.

  1. Transfer of a welder qualification card within the Province of Nova Scotia:  A transfer request form must be completed stating the procedure you want the qualification card transferred to and if the Chief Inspector or Inspector is satisfied he/she may without further testing and on payment of the fee, issue to the welder a new qualification card which shall bear the same expiry date as the original qualification card.

  2. Inter-Provincial welder qualification card transfer: An Inter-Provincial Transfer request form must be completed stating the Province of origins, procedure you want the qualification card transferred to and also a copy of the qualification card from the Province of origins and if the Chief Inspector or Inspector is satisfied he/she may without further testing and on payment of the fee, issue to the welder a new qualification card which shall bear the same expiry date as the original qualification card. Welder qualification may be transferred from one of the following six Canadian provinces:
    1. New Brunswick
    2. Newfoundland and Labrador
    3. North West Territories
    4. Nunavut
    5. Prince Edward Island
    6. Yukon
  3. (As per the agreement for mutual recognition of welder qualification between participating jurisdictions Dated: June 24, 2004)
Waiting Period:
1 - 3 weeks, provided that all the items which must accompany the application have been received.
Expiry & Renewal:
This Certification is valid for 2 years (24 months) from the date that it is issued. It is renewable. The renewal process is started by the certificate holder.
Price: (HST is charged)

Welder Certification:  $57.95; plus $86.93 per hour

Welding procedure qualification registratio:  $46.36

Welder Transfer:  $46.36

Related Requirements:
The company must register a welding procedure with the Province of Nova Scotia.
Additional Information:
Testing is done in accordance with applicable American Society of Mechanical Engineers Codes and Standards as well as related CSA Standards.
