| Application Forms & Process: |

Security individuals cannot contract their services
as sole proprietors. A
company licensed to carry on the business or practice of providing private
investigators or private guards must employ them.
Individuals must make an application through the company before submitting
the application to the Private Security Licensing and Compliance.
When the application is received, a police records and background check
will be conducted on the applicant to determine if the applicant has
a criminal history which will disqualify him/her from holding
a valid licence.
Applications for a license or a license renewal shall be submitted to
the Department of Justice, Security Programs Office on the prescribed
form. Applicants applying for a private investigator, private
guard or armed guard licence must:
- be at least 19 years of age;
- be a Canadian citizen or a person with landed immigrant status
or work visa;
- not be an active regular member of a police service with peace
officer status;
- have no disqualifying criminal history.

An original application shall
be reviewed and a determination made within a minimum of 2 business days after a complete
application has been received. An application is considered complete when
all materials necessary to make a determination on the application and
all requested materials have been received. |
| Expiry & Renewal: |

Every license and renewal of a
license expires on March 31 of each year unless sooner suspended or revoked.
Renewal notices are sent out to the company before the license expires. |

Application fees for licences
are payable to "Minister of Finance" by cheque or money order. Application
fees for licences are processing fees and are non-refundable and non-transferable.

- application for a licence to act as private investigator:
$22.86
- application for a licence to act as private
guard: $22.86
- application for a licence to act as private investigator and
private guard: $34.83 |

The applicant must have no disqualifying criminal history as per Department
of Justice screening criteria policy.
Every applicant for an armed guard licence must produce proof that they
are a holder of a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) and
an Authorization to Carry (ATC) pursuant to the Firearms Act. |
