Canadian Firearms Safety Course/Test Certificate & Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course/Test Certificate

Who Needs This Certificate?
Anyone who wants to get a Canadian (Firearm) Possession and Acquisition Licence, or a Minor's Licence; or

Anyone who wants to prove knowledge of firearms and firearms safety laws. (For example, to qualify to take the Nova Scotia Hunter Education Course.)

Application Forms & Process:
It is recommended that applicants be at least 12 years old.

The applicant contacts their local Nova Scotia Community College, and their name is placed on a list for courses and tests (or tests alone). They will be notified in advance of the next courses/tests which are available. (See Where can you get ..., above, for contact information.)

Waiting Period:
Courses are scheduled based on public demand.  The usual waiting period is between 2 weeks to 2 months.
Expiry :
This certificate does not expire.

Prices:  (No tax is charged)

Each course: $50 (includes handbook)
To challenge the course by taking the exam only: $50 (includes handbook)
Replacement Test Certificate: Free
Related Requirements:
An applicant is not eligible for this Course / Certificate if they are prohibited from possession of firearms.
Additional Information:
This Certificate is not needed for an (Adult) Possession Only Licence. It is, however, needed for the Minor's Possession Only Licence.  

These courses and tests are a pre-requisite for the Atlantic Provinces Hunter Education Course (Part B), which is now provided by the N.S. Federation of Anglers and Hunters. [For more information, see N.S. Department of Natural Resources - Firearm Certification for Hunters.]
