Any business (sole proprietorship,
partnership or corporation) involved in the placement of insurance contracts.
This includes Life insurance (including Accident and Sickness), Restricted
Life insurance (Accident and Sickness only), and General insurance, including
Automobile, Travel, Accident and Baggage Insurance, etc. |

With this Licence, there are two different
ways to submit your application form:
A) You can send in a hard copy. You can get a form
by:
(1) downloading
a form from our website;
(2) visiting any Access
Nova Scotia Centre; or
(3) calling, writing or visiting
the Licensing Section office listed above.
B) You can fill it out on-line. (If you apply
online, we will process your payment, and return a copy of your documents
for your signature and the signature of your Sponsor.)
To do this, you
must be able to pay as follows:
(1) by Visa, Master Card or American
Express Credit Card; or
(2) with an already established
positive balance account with the Nova Scotia Business Registry.
We cannot accept any form of
Debit cards at this time.

listed below!
Information you will need to fill out your application form: |

- Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Business Number.
- Registry of Joint Stock Companies Number
- Agent-in-Charge's name (must be licensed for the same class of insurance
that the agency intends to sell), contact information and date of birth.
- Contact person (if not the Agent-in-charge), including name, contact
information and date of birth.
- List the complete range of financial services and identify their
suppliers.
- List all employees, officers and partners, including contact information,
date of birth and whether they will be selling insurance products in
Nova Scotia.
- Three years of employment history for Agent-in-charge, officers and
partners.
- Details are required if the agent-in-charge any partner or any officer
or director have
- had a licence or registration refused suspended, revoked or subject
to a disciplinary hearing
- been convicted of, or are currently charged, with an offence
- been involved in a personal or corporate bankruptcy with the past
six years
- have any unpaid judgements against you
- will be engaged or employed in any other business, occupation or
profession
- are currently licensed/register for the sale of any other financial
products or services
- are a director, officer or employee of a bank, loan corporation,
finance, real estate or trust company

The completed application form
must be signed by a sponsor who is an insurer licensed to operate in
Nova Scotia.
If the applicant is a non-resident company, a Certificate of Status
from the jurisdiction in which the applicant is resident must be provided.
The completed application is submitted to the Department, along with
the applicable fee (see Price below).
The Department will do a background check on the applicant.
If all requirements are met and the application is approved, the licence
will be mailed to the applicant. |

The waiting period for this licence
varies. |
| Expiry & Renewal: |
|
This licence is valid for 3 years
from its day it is issued. It can can be renewed; the Department will send
out a renewal notice approximately 45 days before it expires. |

Change of sponsor: $57.95
Certificate of Status: $11.59
If you send in an application form (or drop it off in person), payment
is by cash, cheque or money order made out to the Minister of Finance.
No debit cards are accepted at this time.
If you apply on-line, payment is (a) by Visa, MasterCard or American
Express credit card, or (b) with an already established positive balance
account with the Nova Scotia Business Registry. No debit cards are accepted
at this time. |
