Wildlife Resources Card (Formerly Firearm Hunting Certificate - Orange Card)

Who Needs This Card?
  1. Any resident who participates in hunting and/or trapping activities in Nova Scotia.

    This includes:

    • residents who currently hold a Nova Scotia Firearm Hunting Certificate
    • residents who currently hold a Nova Scotia Bow Hunting Certificate
    • Furharvesters
    • Guides
    • Fur buyers
    • Taxidermists
    • Deer hide buyers
    • Pheasant preserve operators
    • Nuisance wildlife operators
       
  2. Required to purchase a N.S. Hunting Licence.

Note:  Formerly known as the "orange card" or the "Hunter Safety Card

Any of the Local or Area Offices of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources or the Departments website at http://www.gov.ns.ca/natr/wrcard/

Consult the Nova Scotia Hunting and Furharvesting Summary of Regulations (which is available both in printed form and on the Department of Natural Resources website.)

Application Process:

Currently this card is only available to residents of Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia residents who currently hold a NS Firearm Hunting Certificate, NS Bow Hunting Certificate, furharvesters, guides, fur buyers, taxidermists, deer hide buyers, pheasant preserve operators and nuisance wildlife operators call 1-900-565-7418 in order to apply for the new Wildlife Resources Card (the charge will automatically be added to your phone bill) .

When you call to obtain your new NS Wildlife Resources Card, be prepared to provide the following information:

  • Master Number from your NS Firearm Hunting Certificate (Orange Card);
  • Full Name;
  • Birth Date;
  • Height;
  • Eye Colour;
  • Mailing and Civic Addresses (including separate postal codes where appropriate);
  • Telephone Number, and if available;
  • Your email address.

Any persons moving into the province wishing to obtain the Wildlife Resources Card must call 1-900-565-7418 (the charge will automatically be added to your phone bill).  They will be asked to supply proof of having successfully completed a Hunter Education Course in another province, state or country (mail to:  Department of Natural Resources, PO Box 698, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3J 2T9 or fax to 424-8116).

Waiting Period:

4-6 weeks after you have applied unless:
you are a new hunter who must take and successfully pass the required courses, the new applicant must therefore wait for the next courses to be held.

Expiry & Renewal:
The new card is valid for five (5) years.
