| | Anyone who wants to search for and recover in Nova Scotia -- either
onshore or offshore -- precious stones or metals in a state other than
their natural state, and to keep them (upon payment of royalty).

| Application Forms & Process: |
| | A written request is required from the applicant identifying the area
of interest by using the map / tract / claim grid system that is used
under the Mineral Resources Act. The applicant can send the request to
the Registrar, Registry
of Mineral and Petroleum Titles, N.S. Department of Natural Resources.
The applicant will be notified in writing by the Minister following approval
of the N.S. Executive
Council [Provincial Government Cabinet].

| | Six months or more.

| Expiry & Renewal: |
| | Licences may be issued for varying lengths of terms, to a maximum of two (2) years. They are not renewable. However, the Department has occasionally considered and granted new licences to former licencees to run continuously from the time of expiration of the former licence. |

- Heritage
Research Permit, N.S. Department of Education
and Culture is required.
- For private lands, written permission from the landowner is required.
- Mineral or Treasure Trove: Excavation Permit,
N.S. Department of Natural Resources, if excavation is anticipated.
- All work conducted pursuant to this Permit must be done in compliance
with the Occupational
Health and Safety Act, the Environment
Act, and all other pertinent legislation.
