Pheasant Preserve Licence

Who Needs This Licence?

Anyone who wants to operate a shooting preserve for gallinaceous birds (that is, pheasants, partridge and grouse).

Note:  The Maritime Centre is located at the intersection of Barrington Street and Spring Garden Road (the Aliant Building at the foot of Spring Garden).

Application Forms & Process:

An application form can be obtained from the nearest Local or Area Office of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources. When completed, it is submitted to the regional office nearest to the location of the intended preserve.

The applicant must supply a survey plan of the site. The premises will be inspected by a regional biologist before approval of the licence.

If all requirements are met and the application is approved, the applicant will be notified by mail by the Licences and Receivable Section of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources, and asked to submit their fee (payable to the Minister of Finance).

Waiting Period:

2 - 3 weeks, provided that all the items that must accompany the application have been received.

Expiry & Renewal:

This licence is valid for 1 year from the date it is issued, covering the period from March 31 of one year to April 1 of the next. It can be renewed, and the renewal time is April 1. The renewal process is started by the licence holder, preferably before it expires.

Price:  (No tax is charged)

Initial Application and Annual Renewal:  $54.40

Valid N.S.Wildlife Resource Card;

Additional Information:
  1. A preserve area shall be not less than 100 acres nor more than 1000 acres.

  2. The boundary of the preserve must be clearly posted with signs.
