Guide Permit: Special (Temporary)

Who Needs This Permit?
Any resident of Nova Scotia who wants to guide friends or relatives for hunting, but is not a licensed guide.

Note: One must be 19 years of age or older to get this permit. (See Related Requirements, below)

Issuing Department / Agency:
N.S. Department of Natural Resources

Where can you get this Permit and / or further information?
  Any of the Local or Area Offices of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources. (See Offices, N.S. Department of Natural Resources.)
Application Forms & Process:
An application form can be obtained from the nearest Local or Area Offices of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources. When completed, it is submitted along with the required fee to the same office.

The applicant must provide a Nova Scotia Wildlife Resource Card and if all other requirements are met, and the application is approved, the permit can be collected at the counter or sent to the applicant by mail.

Waiting Period:
None
Expiry & Renewal:
This permit is good for 7 days. It is valid for the dates specified on the permit. It is not renewable.

Price:  (HST is included)
Resident Only:  $6.15 ($6.33 effective July 1, 2009)
Related Requirements:
  1. The applicant must be a resident of Nova Scotia.

  2. The applicant must be 19 years of age or older.

  3. The applicant must have a valid N.S.Wildlife Resource Card and be certified to hunt with a firearm or bow.

  4. The fee must accompany the application form.

  5. No more than 2 people may be guided at one time.

  6. This permit is to be used ONLY to guide friends and relatives.

  7. Special Permit guides are NOT allowed to charge for their services.
Additional Information:
It is an offence for the applicant to receive any financial gain for their service.
