Burning (Fire) Permit: Industrial / Domestic

| Who Needs This Permit? |
|
Anyone who wants to set a fire in or within
305 meters (1000 feet) of the woods in Nova Scotia during the fire season. Some municipalities may require an additional permit or may prohibit any burning.
Fire Season:
In the counties of Yarmouth, Digby, Shelburne, Kings, Annapolis, Queens and Lunenburg: The fire season runs from April 1 to October 15, each year, all dates inclusive.
All other counties in the province: The fire seasons runs from April 15 to October 15 ,all dates inclusive.

An inspection of site may be required before approval is given.
Conditions considered necessary for the adequate protection from, and
control of, forest fires may be imposed.
If all requirements are met, the applicant will be issued a permit. |

- Industrial : The permit is valid for the duration of the
job. It is not renewable.
- Domestic : The permit is valid for a maximum of 2 weeks.
It is not renewable.

| Additional Information: |

- The permit may be cancelled orally or in writing at any time by
a Conservation Officer.
- The applicant must have the permit before the fire is started.
- The applicant must take precaution to prevent a fire from spreading.
- Every person in charge of a burning operation shall maintain certain
firefighting equipment prescribed in the regulations.
- In some counties, a permit may be obtained from an authorized fire
department.
