Crown Lands: Building on Fishing Reserve Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
Any commercial fisherman who wants to place a structure for the storage of fishing gear on Crown Lands which has been designated by the Provincial Government as a fishing reserve in Nova Scotia.

Application Forms & Process:
Application may be made at the nearest Local or Area Office of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources.

The applicant must be recommended by the N.S. Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

If all requirements are met, and the application is approved, the applicant will be notified by the N.S. Department of Natural Resources, Land Administration Division (Halifax).

Waiting Period:
2 months

Expiry & Renewal:
This permit is valid for 5 years from the date it is issued (unless cancelled or terminated).

Price:  (HST is charged)

Administration Fee: $54.40 plus applicable tax (HST)*
Annual Rent: $27.20 plus applicable tax (HST)*

*All fees are subject to change.

Related Requirements:
  1. N.S. Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, referral as to status as a Commercial Fisherman; (See Offices, N.S. Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.)
  2. Department of Fisheries and Oceans (Canada), referral as to status as a Commercial Fisherman.
  3. Restricted fishing licence.
  4. Fishing Reserve Area.designated by Order in Council.
Additional Information:
  1. The applicant must be recommended by the N.S. Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and be recognized as a commercial fisherman.
  2. The applicant should not incur any expenses without first contacting the N.S. Department of Natural Resources.

Crown Lands Act, Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, Chapter 114, Sections 16 and 39.
