Beach Aggregate Removal Permit (not more than 10 cubic yards)

Who Needs This Permit?
Anyone who wants to remove not more than 10 cubic yards (7.6 cubic metres) of aggregate (gravel, sand, armour stone, and riprap stone) from a beach.

Note: This permit will only be issued for personal use, not for commercial use.

Application Forms & Process:
An application form can be obtained from the nearest Local or Area Office of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources. When the application is completed, it is submitted to the area office.

The applicant must provide a location sketch.

If all requirements are met and the application is approved, the applicant will be notified by the Area Supervisor.

Note: The permit must specify whether use of a vehicle is authorized.

Waiting Period:
Same day

Expiry & Renewal:
This permit is valid for 2 months from the date it is issued. It is not renewable.

Permit: $21.77
Related Requirements:
  1. Protected Beach Vehicle Permit, N.S. Department of Natural Resources.

  2. Removing any beach materials above the ordinary high water mark requires a separate permission of the owner of the adjoining land.
Additional Information:
  1. This permit only covers the removal of beach materials below the ordinary high water mark.

  2. The permit will not be approved for purposes of land fill or road construction.
