Milk Producer Licence

Who Needs This Licence?
Anyone in Nova Scotia who wants to engage in the production of milk to sell milk to processors and/or dairies.

Application Forms & Process:
An application form can be obtained from the Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia When completed, it is submitted to the office above.

If all requirements are met and the application is approved, the licence will be mailed to the applicant.
Waiting Period:
Approximately 2 weeks, provided that all the items that must accompany the application have been received.
Expiry & Renewal: 
This licence does not expire, but the details of the licence coverage can be amended.
Price:
There is no licence fee. Please see Additional information below.
Related Requirements:
Facilities used in milk production are subject to:
  1. An inspection by the Food Safety Section, Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture, and

  2. Milk Quality Provincial Standards compliance confirmation by the Dairy Service Section of the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture.
Additional Information:
Milk producers are required to hold milk production quotas, the administration of which is handled by the Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia.
