Milk Tank Truck Grader Certification and Apprentice Certification

Who Needs This Certification?
Anyone in Nova Scotia who wants to pick up raw milk at the farm gate by tank truck and transport it to processors and manufacturers.

Note: The Department issues both a Permanent Certification and an Apprentice Certification.

Application Forms & Process:

An application form can be obtained from the Quality Evaluation Division of the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture. When completed, it is submitted to the Director of the Quality Evaluation Division or to the Dairy Inspector.

Certification requires successful completion of a qualifying course that is offered once a year by staff of the Quality Evaluation Division. (Contact the Dairy Inspector to register for this course.)

If all requirements and course qualifications are met, and the application is approved, the certification will be sent to the applicant by mail.

Waiting Period:
Up to a year, depending on when the qualifying course is taken. (The course given once per year.)
Expiry: 
This Certification expires in 5 years.  It can be renewed.  Note:  It is the responsibility of the permit holder to contact the Department before it expires; NO NOTICE of renewal will be sent out by the Department.

The Apprentice Certificate expires when the next course is held. Courses are held each year in May.
Price:  (No tax is charged)
The cost of the qualifying course is $289.76
The cost of the refresher course is $57.95
Please pay by cheque or money order made out to the Minister of Finance.
