| Note: There are a number of steps, listed below, to be
completed before an application for this permit can be accepted.
You can get a form to apply for this permit by:
(1) downloading
a form from our website;
(2) visiting any Access
Nova Scotia Centre; or
(3) calling or writing the office
listed above.
Information you will need to fill out your application form:
- Your prospective employer's name, address and NS Registry
of Joint Stock Companies number.
- Details are required if you have

|
- ever been licensed under any federal or provincial statute
- had a licence refused, suspended or revoked
- been involved in a personal or corporate bankruptcy
- unpaid judgements outstanding
- been convicted of a offence under the law and not been pardoned

- Your employment history for the past three years.
|
You can get a Licensing Guide from any Access
Nova Scotia Centre or from the Business Licensing Section listed
above.
Applicants for this permit must:
(a) complete a 6-month apprenticeship under the supervision of a licensed
hearing aid dealer, and provide written confirmation of that apprenticeship
from the person who provided the training.
(b) successfully write the International Licensing Exam (ILE);
Note: Although it is not required, a candidate may wish
to undertake the Institute of Hearing Instrument Studies Correspondence
Course, and take the course examination, in preparation for taking the
ILE. Information on the course is available from the office listed
above.
(c) take a practical (live subject) exam supervised by the N.S. Hearing
and Speech Clinic.
Note: you cannot take the practical exam until you have
passed the written exam.
Only after all those steps have been completed will an application
for this Permit be accepted.
The application form must be signed by an official of the company
for whom the applicant will be selling, and then submitted to the Department,
along with the applicable fee (see Price below).
Note: Anyone who has a master's degree in audiology
and has Canadian Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists
(CASLPA) Certification in Audiology is exempt from the above noted training
requirements, provided that they can verify both their degree and certificate,
and pay the appropriate fee.
If all requirements are met and the application is approved, the permit
will be mailed to the applicant.
