Building Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
  A Building Permit is required for the erection, installation, extension, relocating, material alteration or material repair of a building and includes the installation of a factory-made building fabricated or moved from elsewhere.

Application Forms & Process:
  Application should be made by using the form available from the office listed above. The application process will begin within one week of receipt of the application. The applicant will be notified by mail and may be required to provide additional information in order to determine if the application complies with the requirements of the Building Code Act.
 
Waiting Period:
  There is no set time frame for notification; however, 2 to 3 weeks is considered reasonable time from receipt of a completed application.
 
Price & Payment:
  Fees range from 2 cents per square foot up to 10 cents per square foot depending on the use, plus a $5.00 flat charge. Renovations and alterations are based on $1.00 per $1,000.00 of construction costs.
 
Expiry & Renewal:
  The building permit expires after 12 months and must be renewed if construction is to continue.
