Development Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
  Anyone who wants to construct, locate, alter or change the use of any building or structure within the Town of Yarmouth, including alteration of land levels and signage.

Note:  Depending upon what you want to do, you may also need a Building Permit.

Application Forms & Process:
  A Development Permit application may be obtained from the Development Officer, Town of Yarmouth.

If approved, the permit is mailed to the applicant.

Waiting Period:
  The permit is normally processed within 30 business days, once all items which must accompany the application have been received, and all requirements are met.
Expiry & Renewal:
  This Permit will expire if work has not begun within 6 months of the date of issue. Once work has begun, it does not expire.

Related Requirements:
  The following permits or approvals may be required before a Development Permit can be issued:
  1. Subdivision Approval (if applicable)

  2. Under certain circumstances, application and approval of a variance may be necessary prior to the issuance of a development permit.

  3. Coast Guard Approval

  4. Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Transport Canada

  5. Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal and traffic authority.

  6. Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal or Environment and Labour.

  7. Surface run-off approval from from the Town Engineer.
