Development Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
  Anyone who wants to erect, construct, alter, replace, relocate or add to any structure (including advertising signs), and anyone who wants to make any change or alteration in the use made of land or structures, within the Town of Shelburne.

Application Forms & Process:
  An applicant may obtain the application form from the Development Officer or from the Town Administration Office.
Waiting Period:
  Approximately 2 weeks ordinarily, but several months if a Development Agreement or a Zoning change is needed.
Price:
  varies, depending on particular type of development permit
Expiry & Renewal:
  This permit is valid for 12 months from the date it was issued. It is renewable.
Related Requirements:
  Prior approvals required:

(a) Subdivision approval (if applicable)
(b) On-Site Sewage Disposal System Approval (if applicable)
(c) Central sewer connection permission (if applicable)

Additional Information:
  Building permits cannot be issued in zoned areas until a development permit is first issued. Some parts of the Municipal district are subject to a Land Use Bylaw. Check with the Development Officer or Building Inspector.
